Dear SJB Families,
This week has been a particularly busy and enriching one across the school, filled with exciting trips and the launch of new learning spaces for our children.
Our Year 4 pupils had the wonderful opportunity to perform at St Paul’s Cathedral as part of the Raise the Roof concert. Staff who accompanied the children described the event as truly beautiful, and we were incredibly proud of how well the children represented our school through both their performance and exemplary behaviour.
Yesterday, our Year 3 classes visited the British Museum to deepen their learning about the Benin Kingdom and Ancient Egypt. Experiences like this bring classroom learning to life and create lasting memories for our pupils.
We have also been delighted to launch two new spaces within our school this week. The first is the full opening of our Reading Garden in the middle hall (more information on this will follow next week). In addition, we have introduced a new garden area in the playground. Thanks to secured funding, we have been able to bring a touch of nature into our concrete inner-London environment. Please do take a look at the photos in a later section of the newsletter.
A reminder that Monday is a bank holiday, so school will be closed. We hope you all enjoy a restful long weekend.
Ms Toni Mason

Our Green and Growing Spaces
Expanded This Week at SJB
Playground Developments – Part 1
We are delighted to share some exciting news about a wonderful new area we have been developing in our playground!
Miss Caitlin McConnell (our Reception Teacher), alongside Pedro and many helping hands, has carefully planned and created a beautiful space where children can grow plants, relax, and explore. This special area includes flowers, small plants, herbs, and climbing ivy, creating a calm and inviting environment. There are cosy spots to sit, read, and chat with friends (or to the plants), as well as a magical fairy garden designed to spark imagination and creative play.
We are thrilled that a previously underused part of our playground has been transformed into such a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. It is already bringing so much joy to the children, and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow and flourish.
We are still in the process of choosing a name for this lovely new area and would love your thoughts! Here are a few ideas we’ve come up with so far: ‘The Growing Garden’, ‘The Giggle Garden’, ‘The Garden of Growth’, ‘The Garden Getaway’, ‘The Green Grove’, ‘The Nature Nook’, ‘The Little Leafy Lane’, ‘The Secret Sanctuary’, ‘The Sunny Sanctuary’ and ‘The Enchanted Area’. If you have any other creative suggestions, we’d be delighted to hear them!

Celebrating 100 Years of Sir David Attenborough
In school, we have created more space for nature and outdoor learning which is very approproiate as next week marks the 100th birthday of David Attenborough: a wonderful opportunity to explore the natural world together as a family.
Why It Matters
Sir David has inspired generations to appreciate wildlife and understand how to care for our planet. His programmes are engaging, visually stunning, and accessible for children when watched together.

Our Sandpit is Coming!
Playground Developments – Part 2

You may have noticed quite a lot of sand just inside the school gates. We’re excited to share that our new sandpit for children in Years 1 to 6 is well on its way!
The sand has arrived, and staff and volunteers have been busy building the tyre surround. We’re excited to see this space begin to take shape, and over the coming weeks we’ll continue bringing the sandpit to life. This project supports our focus on enriching play and promoting creativity, collaboration, and wellbeing. We can’t wait to see the children enjoying the space.
Thank you to everyone who has helped so far. More updates soon!
