Art & Design Technology

Explore
Art at St. John the Baptist has risen in profile over the last few years. It allows a range of children to access learning in a new way and have a plenitude of opportunities to ignite their creativity. Art days are run regularly through the school year, where children are immersed in a new artist, both traditional and modern.

Computing

Explore
Our vision is to embed computing in as many learning opportunities as possible. This will provide our children with concrete experiences of when and how they can use digital media in different aspects of their lives.

English: Reading & Phonics

Explore
Children at St John the Baptist should leave us loving reading and regularly reading for pleasure. They enjoy reading a variety of texts and can talk in detail and at length about their reading, favourite authors, books they enjoy and how reading and writing support one another.

English: Writing

Explore
At St John the Baptist, we aim to give our children a writing curriculum which enables them to become confident, creative and independent writers who are able to transfer their skills throughout the curriculum and their lives. Our children can articulate their own ideas and all learning links pupils’ real life experiences, trips, high quality literature or film to provide a contextual and meaningful curriculum.

History and Geography

Explore
At St John the Baptist we aim to give our children a humanities curriculum which enables them to become confident, creative and independent learners who can explore the use of different knowledge and skills throughout topical learning.

Mathematics

Explore
At St John the Baptist, we follow the Primary Advantage Curriculum for Mathematics, which provides students with exciting, relevant and challenging Mathematics.

Modern Foreign Languages

Explore
Our aim is to embed Spanish in our local community for the pupils to understand the purpose of learning a Modern Foreign Language.

Music

Explore
At St John the Baptist, we offer students a broad range of musical opportunities and experiences. Pupils are engaged and inspired to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians. Music at St John the Baptist aims to increase self-confidence and creativity through the exploration of musical composition, performance and listening.

Physical Education

Explore
Fun and enjoyment have been reported as the main reasons that pupils take part in physical activity. Being with friends and the sense of belonging to a team and achieving also encourages pupils to take part (Brockman et al., 2011; Burrows, 1999; Mason, 1995; Mulivhill et al, 2000; Tuxworth, 1997).

Religious Education

Explore
As a school with Christian values at its heart, SJB is passionate about RE.

Science

Explore
Our vision is to give our children a Science curriculum which enables them to explore and discover the world around them, resulting in a deeper understanding. This involves exciting, practical hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity and questioning.
