Marvellous Me

Explore
Marvellous Me is a free app which tells you marvellous news about your child’s learning and positive behaviours. If you haven’t already signed up then please speak to your class teacher. We want all parents and carers to sign up so the whole community feels included in sharing marvellous news!

Attendance & Punctuality

Explore
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind.

Behaviour

Explore
We see good behaviour as a means of ensuring all members of the school community feel safe and happy and we take a positive approach to supporting children in developing good behaviour and attitudes. We teach our children about their rights but we take care to ensure that they also understand their responsibilities.

The School Day

Explore
School starts at 8.45 a.m. Children should not arrive earlier than this unless they are attending Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club begins at 8.00am. Our main gate is situated at the bottom of Crondall Street. Punctual arrival in the mornings mean children get the most out of the school day. Learning starts as soon as children enter their classroom with Guided Reading. Being punctual also helps children value being on time for important events, ensures they feel fully involved with the school day and avoids disruption for the rest of the class.

School Uniform

Explore
School Uniform at St John the Baptist is red, white and blue. It is mandatory at St John the Baptist for children to wear school uniform.

Coffee Mornings

Explore
At least once a half-term we hold parent coffee and information mornings. Run by Miss DeNapoli (Deputy Head teacher) and Mrs Habanananda (Inclusion Manager), each session focuses on different aspects of children’s learning. We’ve had amazing turn outs for all of our Parent Coffee Mornings so far. If you could not attend any of the sessions, you can view the material that was covered by clicking on the links below.

Learning at Home

Explore
If you are an adult and you are on this section of the website, we suppose you are concerned about your child. If you are a child, we suspect you clicking on this page was a huge mistake or there was a dream that scared you in to liking homework. Either way, let us tell you the benefits of homework.

Online Payments

Explore
ParentPay is a secure online payment system that allows parents to pay for School Dinners, Breakfast Club, After School Care and School Trips at St John the Baptist using an online account. Online payments offers you the freedom to make payments whenever you like, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

School Meals

Explore
We are a healthy school and encourage all pupils to make healthy meal choices. School meals are available for all children in the school and include a vegetarian option. Children can bring a healthy packed lunch, which is eaten in the hall with the other children when school dinners are served. Packed lunches must not contain crisps, sweets, chocolate bars or fizzy drinks. A healthy packed lunch should contain a sandwich, a piece of fruit, vegetables, yoghurt and a bottle of water. School dinners are free for all children.

School Streets

Explore
In September 2016, primary schools in Hackney were invited to apply to take part in piloting a new scheme called “School Streets”, where the road outside the school is temporarily closed to traffic during school opening and closing times. Thirteen schools, including St John the Baptist, expressed their interest in participating and we were selected to take part. We believe that School Streets offers the opportunity to address the ongoing road safety issues that the school has been experiencing at school opening and closing times.

Online Safety

Explore
Online safety encompasses not only the internet but other ways in which young people communicate using electronic media, for example: iPads, Android tablets, online gaming and mobile phones. Whilst the internet and technology can be a very valuable tool to support children’s learning, there are times when it can have negative effects on children. It is important for schools and parents to be aware of the potential dangers and to ensure safe usage by all.
