Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another great week here at St John the Baptist, with lots to celebrate.
We were delighted to welcome two special visitors into school this week. Sabine and Robyn, who are curates (newly ordained priests learning under a vicar), spent time visiting classes and getting to know our children. They had such lovely things to say about our school community and our pupils, and we wish them every success in their new ventures. Sabine even led an assembly, where she spoke about her published children’s books and read a passage aloud to the children – a real treat and inspiration for us all.
Looking ahead, next week promises to be another exciting one as we begin preparations for our International Day and Evening. On one day next week, the children will spend the whole day learning all about a chosen country and creating a beautiful display. These will then be shared with family and friends after school during our International Evening the following week.
For the evening celebrations, if you would like to prepare a dish to bring and share, we would be most grateful. Last year was a roaring success, and we would love to make this year even bigger and better.
We are also hosting another Friends of St John the Baptist meeting on Tuesday at 15:00 to discuss and finalise plans for this special event. We hope to see both established and new faces there.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Ms Toni Mason
Please note, Monday 9th February Coffee Morning is led by Selin (an external specialist) on an ‘Introduction to Mental Heath’. It will run from 09:00 – 09:30. We hope to see many of you there!

Today we were delighted to welcome Hello Vet, a new local veterinary practice based in Bushey, to our school. The children took part in an exciting and engaging assembly where they explored real animal X-rays, learned how to care for animals (and how animals like guide dogs care for us), discovered veterinary tools, and found out what a typical day in the life of a vet looks like.
The session was a huge success – the children were engaged, asked brilliant questions, and several have already said they might consider becoming a vet in the future!

We’re very grateful to the Hello Vet team for giving their time and expertise, and for inspiring such curiosity and enthusiasm among the children.
Hello Vet will also be running free, in-clinic “behind the scenes” days locally on 18–19 April. Families can register at littlevetsbushey.eventbrite.com.
Hackney Council is providing a £10 half-term food voucher for every child eligible for benefit-related Free School Meals, including eligible nursery children.
Schools will arrange these vouchers before the February half term, with delivery by 20 February 2026.
If your child is eligible, no action is needed from parents. Please contact your school if you have any questions.

We’re pleased to let parents know that our school has joined the Little Recyclers programme. This is a simple way to raise funds for the school while helping reduce waste by keeping good-quality textiles out of landfill.
Families are invited to donate clean, wearable items such as clothing, shoes (paired), bags and accessories. Please note that school uniform and damaged or dirty items cannot be accepted. A full list of accepted items can be found below.
Our first collection will take place shortly after half term, so please use the break as a chance to have a clear-out at home. Donations are welcome from parents, carers, friends and family.
Thank you in advance for supporting this initiative – it’s a great way to help both the school and the environment.
