Learning about balanced diets in Year 1
In Oak class, we were learning about making good choices to be healthy. We had a great discussion about how to have a balanced diet and what foods to eat that are good for us....

Dear Families,
What an excellent first week back after half term. It’s been wonderful to see so many smiling faces and children eager to learn.
This half term we find children tend to make accelerated progress.
To further enhance this, please continue to support your child at home by reading daily and talking to your children about the learning they are doing. Reading daily has been proven to have a huge impact on attainment.
Oracy is a big focus at St John the Baptist and children sharing their learning with you enables them to practise so many of the much needed skills to be able to converse with confidence.
We are looking forward to brighter days and lighter evenings but if today is anything to go by we can have all weather in one day!
Please continue to send your child to school with their coats – even the sunniest of mornings can end with hail and thunder!

Uniform
This term we are focussing on looking smart. Our children look incredibly smart in their school uniform: it’s our identity and we are all very proud of this.
Please ensure that children are wearing school shoes during the day (plain black school shoes or all black trainers) and have trainers for PE.

OPAL – Outdoor Play and Learning
Volunteers needed – Are you good with plants?
We are in need of support with our plants and gardening so please let us know if you can help.
As our OPAL journey continues, we are reaching out to our amazing community. We are looking for tyres, bread crates and wooden pallets. Do you work in construction? Do you know someone who owns a garage and would be willing to donate tyres? Do you or someone in your family work for a bakery or supermarket delivery company? If you are able to support our play in this way, please get in touch via the office email: office@st-john.hackney.sch.uk
Please also don’t forget to complete our parent survey – the more information we have, the better our play times can be! Thank you in advance.

Nut Free School
A general reminder that we operate a nutfree policy in school for all food.
Please be particularly careful with any food provided in lunches.
We do have some children with severe allergies in our school and we obviously want to look after them to the very best of our ability.
Apply now for Nursery Places
Applications are being considered for admittance to our 2 year old and 3 year old Nursery.
Your child is eligible to start in the term following their 2nd or 3rd birthday.
In some circumtances they may be able to sart on their birthday so please enquire so we can help you with the options!
