Dear Parents and Carers,
At St John the Baptist, we firmly believe that our school is strongest when we work in partnership with our parents and carers. Your support, encouragement and involvement make an enormous difference to our children’s experiences, and we are always incredibly grateful for the time, energy and care you give to our school community.
I am therefore delighted to remind you that this Tuesday 20th (with apologies – this was incorrectly stated as the 19th on the poster), we will be hosting our first Friends of St John the Baptist meeting of the new year. We would love to welcome as many of you as possible, including both our established members and any new faces who may be interested in getting involved.
This meeting is a wonderful opportunity to share ideas that parents and carers could lead on to help enrich school life. We will also be discussing our upcoming International Day and Evening, so if you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions about how this event could be made even better, please do come along and join the conversation.
The meeting will take place at 2:50pm. Please come to the school office, where you will be directed.
We very much hope you can join us and look forward to working together to continue building a vibrant and supportive school community.
With thanks and best wishes,
Ms Toni Mason

From this term, we are excited to be introducing new opportunities for children to become more knowledgeable about politics, with a particular focus on our older pupils in Years 5 and 6.
We are privileged to be working with Mary Senjobi, Associate Organiser for Hackney Citizens, who will be leading a group of children through an inspiring, real-world project. The children will work together to identify an issue they care about in the local area and take meaningful steps to create change. As part of this experience, they will also visit Hackney Town Hall and later in the year have the opportunity to speak at a Hackney Citizens Assembly.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to see democracy in action and to understand that their voices matter. Learning about politics at a young age helps children develop critical thinking skills, confidence in expressing their views, and an understanding of fairness, rights and responsibilities. It also encourages them to engage thoughtfully with the world around them and lays strong foundations for active, informed citizenship in the future.
Parents and carers can support this learning at home by talking with children about local and national issues in an age-appropriate way, encouraging questions, discussing different viewpoints respectfully, and helping children notice how decisions are made in everyday life. Simple conversations about fairness, community and making a difference can have a powerful impact.
We are confident that this project will be an inspiring experience for our pupils and hope it will spark a lasting interest in politics and civic engagement among our future leaders.
