First week in Reception
Reception have had an amazing first week exploring their new environment and have settled in so well!...
Dear Parents and Carers, We’ve had another wonderful week here at St John The Baptist Primary School. The children have been thoroughly enjoying restarting their art lessons with Natalie, our talented artist in residence. They’ve produced some fantastic work and really embraced their creativity. Alongside this, we’ve had some exciting lessons exploring the history of Hoxton and the surrounding area, with the children engaging in fascinating investigations. It was also lovely to see so many of you at the first meeting to discuss the creation of a new PTA (name to be decided!) Your enthusiasm and ideas were inspiring, and I’m looking forward to our next meeting in a few weeks’ time to continue this important work. Thank you for your ongoing support. Kind regards, Ms Toni Mason School assemblies are an essential part of our daily school life here at St John the Baptist! It is a time where children and staff come together as a community and learn about interesting and different topics (that we might not always cover in regular lessons), celebrate each others’ successes and gather in collective worship. Please see below for the assembly timetable and each days’ focus: Monday: Topic Assembly (led by a Teaching Member of Staff) These assemblies either focus on one of our school values: Respect. Determination, Cooperation, Collaboration or Honesty or they teach and celebrate about important people, dates or issues e.g. World Afro Day on Monday 16th September. Tuesday: Singing Assembly (Led by our Music Teacher) Singing together and celebrating many different artists. Wednesday: Church Assembly (Led by our Children’s Minister, Doreen and Rev. Graham from St John’s Hoxton) Most weeks, we are in school for these collective worship sessions. However, every half term, we also visit the church for a service with Reverend Graham and Sarah. These services are extra special around Christmas and Easter. Thursday: Topic Assembly (Led by class teachers in classrooms) Like on Mondays, these assemblies inform, teach and celebrate important people, dates and events in history or discuss current issues but in a classroom setting to allow for more deep and meaningful discussions. Friday: Celebration Assembly (Led by a member of the Leadership Team) At the end of the week, we come together as a school to celebrate each other’s’ achievements and awards: Star of the Week, Kindness Award, Speller of the Week, Reading Plus and Timetable Rockstars Milestones, as well as find out who will be attending Golden Tea with Miss Mason that Friday afternoon! School assemblies are more than just a gathering. They are an important part of our curriculum that helps us learn, grow, and feel connected to our school community. Our weekly toddler stay-and-play starts back on 12th September. Parents and carers with their pre-school children are very welcome to join us for snacks and refreshments and plenty of toys and activities for the little ones. On the 15th September, World Afro Day is celebrating its fifth anniversary. It is a global celebration that embraces the beauty and significance of Afro-textured hair. This event is not just about hairstyles; it’s a day dedicated to recognising the history, culture, and identity associated with Afro hair. On Monday 16th, we shall be celebrating by inviting children to come into school wearing their hair their way and learning about its significance in a special assembly. We look forward to seeing everyone’s unique styles and expressions on Monday 16th! On September 20th, we’re inviting all students to wear their favourite jeans to school for Jeans for Genes Day! This special day is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children affected by genetic disorders. By participating, you’ll be helping to provide vital support and resources to these children and their families. Please bring in a small donation—every penny makes a difference! Donations will be collected in buckets at the school gates as you arrive. Let’s come together in our denim, show our support, and make a real impact on the lives of those in need. PE lessons start again from Monday. Please see below in order to know which day your child needs to come to school wearing a PE kit. Please note: this term, Year 6 are going swimming on Wednesday. Please ensure that your child comes to school with their full swimming kit. Reception have had an amazing first week exploring their new environment and have settled in so well!... Chestnut have been preparing speeches to stand for the various elected roles in the school. This is a great opportunity to practise public speaking and making persuasive arguments. We have also been enjoying Spanish on a Friday afternoon with Profe (Teacher) Enrique.... Rowan class went on a walk around the local area looking for sustainable resources. We noticed lots of recycling bins, electric bikes and boats with solar panels on them.... This week in the 2 Year old nursery we have been learning about different emotions and also lots of playing outside (of course!)... In maths Cherry class have practiced adding and subtracting multiples of ten. They used dienes and part whole models to help them with their tricky questions.... Willow class enjoyed writing poems about kindness using similes and metaphors. They then shared their kindness poems with their class....
