Dear Parents and Carers,
What a busy and exciting week it has been at SJB!
Year 4 have been enjoying their first visit to Ufton Court in Reading, and it was lovely to have the opportunity to visit them and see for myself what a brilliant time they are having.
Back at school, we have welcomed a range of visitors and enjoyed some fantastic assemblies, as well as celebrating the official launch of our wonderful Forest Library. You can see some lovely photographs of these events further down and our establishment plaque below.

Our children have also been making us proud beyond the school gates. Members of our Community Action Group have been out campaigning for the Living Wage in Hackney, while a group of Year 6 girls represented SJB brilliantly at a competition.
There is certainly never a dull moment at SJB! It is wonderful to see our children embracing so many different opportunities, showing enthusiasm, confidence and a real sense of community. A huge thank you to everyone who helps make these experiences possible.
Warm regards,
Ms Toni Mason

Parent and Carer Open Morning – Friday 16th October
We are looking forward to welcoming parents and carers into school next Friday for our Open Morning.
Please meet at the front office after drop-off. You will then have the opportunity to visit classrooms between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m.
As well as visiting your own child’s classroom, we encourage you to explore all the classrooms to see the wonderful range of teaching and learning taking place across the school.
Please do drop by if you are able to. We hope to see lots of you there!

What a fantastic day celebrating the official launch of our Forest Library!
We were delighted to welcome the wonderful poet Neal Zetter, who treated the whole school to an amazing assembly, sharing some of his brilliant poems and inspiring us all with his love of poetry and reading.
Following the assembly, our fantastic pupil librarians proudly escorted Neil and some of our parents to the Forest Library for the official opening.
A truly special occasion and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for reading in our school!
A huge thank you to Neal Zetter and everyone who helped make the day so memorable!

Last week, we were incredibly lucky to welcome a visiting scientist to SJB for three spectacular science shows! Last year, we applied for a grant to fund this exciting opportunity, and we are certainly glad we did!
The show, entitled ‘Exploding Food’, was delivered to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 during the school day, followed by a special community performance after school, which parents and families were invited to enjoy.
The children were absolutely captivated by the experiments and demonstrations, and their faces said it all! There was plenty of awe and wonder (and sometimes a little horror!) as they watched science come to life before their eyes.
As well as being hugely entertaining, the shows were a fantastic learning experience. The children discovered more about the different food groups and what happens to food as it travels through our bodies. It was a brilliant way to spark curiosity, inspire our budding scientists and bring learning to life.
Take a look at the photographs below to see some of those priceless reactions!

Our fantastic Year 5 and 6 Community Action Group recently visited the new Victoria and Albert Museum in East Hackney to campaign for all museum employees to receive the Living Wage.
Working alongside Hackney Citizens and the London Alliance, our pupils performed a song they had written to support the campaign. A special well done to Aisha, who confidently co-led the entire event alongside a pupil from another school!
We are incredibly proud of our pupils for using their voices to stand up for positive change in our community!

On Thursday 8th October, eight talented girls from Years 5 and 6 proudly represented St John the Baptist at the Girls’ Football Tournament held at Mabley Green Astro in Hackney.
The tournament was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to showcase their football skills, develop teamwork and build confidence while competing against other local primary schools. It was wonderful to see our girls embracing the challenge, demonstrating determination, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship.
Well done to all the girls who represented SJB! We are incredibly proud of you!

Our school has been chosen to perform at the MFY Proms at Royal Albert hall. We are so proud!
