Dear Families,
Yesterday, we marked VE Day with an in-class assembly where we reflected on the 80th anniversary of this important moment in history. The children showed great respect as we observed a two-minute silence, taking time to honour the bravery and sacrifices made by so many.
This week, we were once again visited by an external guest (one of the Federation Governors) who spent time in classrooms and around the school. As always, they were incredibly impressed by the children’s learning behaviours, focus, and engagement. While this is something we’ve come to expect here, it’s important we take a moment to truly appreciate how special it is hearing visitors speak so highly of our school—our children really do make us proud every single day.
A very special message goes out to our Year 6 pupils, who will be taking their SATs next week. They have worked so hard, shown real determination, and made amazing progress throughout their time with us. We truly couldn’t be prouder. These assessments are just one small moment in their journey—they don’t reflect who they are as artists, athletes, problem-solvers, musicians, leaders, or kind and thoughtful individuals. However, they are an exciting rite of passage and a brilliant opportunity for children to showcase just how much they’ve achieved.
We encourage all of Year 6 to spend the weekend and the days ahead resting, relaxing, and having fun—you’ve earned it!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Ms Toni Mason
We are thrilled to announce that our school will relaunching International Day and Evening on Wednesday 4th June from 3:45pm to 5:15pm, and we warmly invite all families to join us in the afternoon celebrating the incredible cultural diversity within our school community.
Throughout the day, children are encouraged to wear traditional clothing from their home country or from a country that holds special significance for their family. This is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to share and take pride in their heritage.
In preparation for the event, each class will be learning about a country from around the world. During the evening, students will have prepared a stand and will be able to showcase what they have learned through displays and presentations. It promises to be a vibrant and enriching experience for all.
And what’s a celebration without food? We’ll be serving a variety of delicious international dishes—and that’s where we would love your help. We are kindly asking families to consider contributing a dish that represents their culture or background. Whether it’s sweet or savoury, a small taster or a full tray, all donations are greatly appreciated.
If you are able to bring food to share, please let us know by contacting the school office by Friday 30th May. Be sure to label your dish and include a list of ingredients for allergy purposes.
Let’s come together to celebrate, learn from one another, and enjoy a truly global evening. We can’t wait to see you there!
Here are a few key updates in primary education:
1. Mobile Phone Guidance
The government has reinforced its stance on banning mobile phones in schools to support focused learning—something most primary schools already follow but is relevant for year 6 children who will soon be moving on to Secondary.
2. School Attendance Push
A national campaign is encouraging better school attendance, with early support for pupils who miss school regularly.
3. Free School Breakfasts and meals Trials
Pilot schemes in some areas are expanding free school meals and breakfasts to more children, as part of wider efforts to support families. We are interested to see how these will work.
4. Mental Health in Schools
More Mental Health Support Teams are being introduced in schools, highlighting the importance of well-being alongside academic progress.
5. Year 4 Times Tables Check
A reminder that the Multiplication Tables Check for Year 4 pupils takes place in June, testing fluency with times tables up to 12 x 12.

We have been asked to share this survey with parents and carers.
We want to understand how confident parents and carers feel in finding support, information and advice about supporting your children and yourself in staying mentally well in Hackney. This survey will allow us to understand these questions and begin to address gaps in awareness and confidence.
This survey is part of the Mental Health Needs assessment being carried out by Public Health/Population Health Hub alongside CAMHS , Hackney Education, WAMHS (Wellbeing and Mental Health in Schools), and others who provide wellbeing and mental health services or support to children and young people in City & Hackney.
The survey is 10 questions and should take 10-15 minutes to complete.
Please complete if you can.
