Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to a brand new school year at St John The Baptist Primary School! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break. It has been wonderful to see the children settle back in so well, and we are proud of the positive start they’ve made. The classrooms are full of energy and excitement, and it’s clear that everyone is ready for another year of learning, growth and fun. A special welcome to all of our new children and families who have joined us this year. We are delighted to have you as part of our school community and look forward to getting to know you. We hope you soon feel at home here and enjoy all the opportunities that St John The Baptist Primary has to offer. This year, we are focused on helping every child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Whether it’s through exploring new topics in class, building friendships in the playground, or trying out new activities, we look forward to watching your children thrive. Together, we can ensure that this year is filled with opportunities for success, learning and development. In addition, we are excited to announce the relaunch of our St John The Baptist Friends and Parent Group. This group is a fantastic way for parents and carers to get involved in school life, support events, and help build a strong community. If you are interested, we warmly invite you to our first meeting next Wednesday morning at 8:45. Please meet at the front office for a chat and a cup of tea – we’d love to see you there! Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to working closely with you to make this school year the best it can be for all of our students. Best regards, Ms Toni Mason On the 15th September, World Afro Day is celebrating its fifth anniversary. It is a global celebration that embraces the beauty and significance of Afro-textured hair. This event is not just about hairstyles; it’s a day dedicated to recognising the history, culture, and identity associated with Afro hair. On Monday 16th, we shall be celebrating by inviting children to come into school wearing their hair their way and learning about its significance in a special assembly. We look forward to seeing everyone’s unique styles and expressions on Monday 16th! At our school, we recognise the crucial role hydration plays in maintaining focus in lessons and overall health. Regular water intake is essential for keeping students energised and ready to learn. That’s why we actively encourage all students to drink water throughout the school day. To support this, each child is welcome to use a school-provided SJB water bottle. However, if your child prefers, they are also welcome to bring a water bottle from home. Just ensure it is clearly labelled with their name to avoid any mix-ups. Children have already requested water bottles in class and been issued with them. However, please double check with your child at home and if they still require a school water bottle, they just need to let their class teacher know. On September 20th, we’re inviting all students to wear their favourite jeans to school for Jeans for Genes Day! This special day is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children affected by genetic disorders. By participating, you’ll be helping to provide vital support and resources to these children and their families. Please bring in a small donation—every penny makes a difference! Donations will be collected in buckets at the school gates as you arrive. Let’s come together in our denim, show our support, and make a real impact on the lives of those in need. PE lessons start again from Monday. Please see below in order to know which day your child needs to come to school wearing a PE kit. Please note: this term, Year 6 are going swimming on Wednesday. Please ensure that your child comes to school with their full swimming kit. On Friday, It Takes A Village kindly donated food for our parents from Pret. They will be donating food every Friday so please keep an eye out for updates!... Introducing our fantastic new Spanish Teacher Enric who will be teaching on Fridays! We are all really excited. Fantástico!... It was lovely to see out breakfast club up and running again. We have had lots of fun playing games and catching up with each other!... Well done to our KS1 award winners this week. What a great start to a new year!... Chestnut have been learning about The Windrush Generation which they explored through a conscience alley where one person listened to all the different reasons to stay and all the different reasons to go before making up their mind. A great opportunity to explore an issue...... In Palm Class we have been reading ‘kindness grows’ – we thought of many ways that we can be kind and wrote our ideas on leaves. We then used our leaves to make a kindness tree....
