Dear St John the Baptist Families, What a great week for trips and visits this week at St John the Baptist. Our iSing Pop choir performed at Saint Church, Hackney Church in Lower Clapton this week. We are looking forward to showcasing more of our musical performances over the year. Our NFL (American Football) team came second place this week in the BADU competition held at City Academy – what an amazing feat! The team, comprising of 10 of our Y6 children, got all the way to the final, missing the top spot by only 1 point! We are incredibly proud of their achievement. Also, our Year 2 children visited the Islington Synagogue this week and met the Rabbi, learning lots about Judaism. We love taking the children out on trips and visits. Look out for more opportunities as the spring term progresses. We also welcome visitors in to school. If you have a hidden talent, an interesting job, are knowledgeable about something in our curriculum, or know someone who is, please do get in touch! We have seen an increase in the temperature which is unusual for so early in the year. Where children are so active at break and lunch times, often they remove their coats and jumpers. Sometimes they pick up another child’s jumper as they are often very similar sizes. Please ensure all your child’s uniform has their name in so it is easily identifiable if it does take a wander! If you do end up with an extra item, please return to school. Thank you for your support. Next week is the last week of this half term. We finish at the usual time on Friday 8th February 3:30pm. Breakfast Club and After School Care will continue as normal on all days. Have a wonderful weekend. Best wishes, Toni Mason As our OPAL journey continues, we are reaching out to our amazing community. We are looking for tyres, bread crates and wooden pallets. Do you work in construction? Do you know someone who owns a garage and would be willing to donate tyres? Do you or someone in your family work for a bakery or supermarket delivery company? If you are able to support our play in this way, please get in touch via the office email: office@st-john.hackney.sch.uk Please also don’t forget to complete our parent survey – the more information we have, the better our play times can be! Thank you in advance. Survey link (please click)
Wednesday 7th February 2024 – Coffee morning: SaLT support – language focus We currently taking applications for the waiting list for both three-year-old and two-year-old Nursery. Please speak to School office more information. Please share with your family and friends as places are limited! Well done to everyone who received star of the week this week!... Students in Year 2 wrote poems inspired by Maya Angelou this week. They used a variety of devices to create fantastic poems.... Year 5 enjoying reading week by having Miss James read them a book.... To finish our History unit on the NHS, we placed all of the information that we know on timelines. We made sure that they were to scale, and then researched any other additional information... This week seven of our children attended Hackney Church to perform for iSing Pop. They had a great time and sounded amazing. We are very proud of them!... In our computing lessons, Rowan have been working in small groups to plan and record a 1 minute video showcasing a sport skill. Today they worked on perfecting different camera shots and holding the camera steady to take clear footage.... We are thinking and learning about Transport and Winter. We are listening to the ‘Winter’ and ‘Transport’ Now Press Play experience. We really enjoyed pretending to have a snowball fight and making a snowman as well as travelling to France on a range of transports...... In reception we have learnt the sound sh, and using our phonics knowledge to write words with the sound in it.... This week the 2 year olds have been doing lots of reading and exploring different books.... Year 2 had so much fun on their trip to a Synagogue this week. They learnt more about Jewish culture and got to meet a Rabbi. They asked lots of wonderful questions and had a great time.... In art we are taking inspiration from Chris Ofili. We looked at patterns and colours in his paintings and used flowing ink to create our own patterns in our sketch books. We enjoyed using different colour combinations and seeing what happens when we mix colours....
