The RRS steering group is a dedicated team of pupils, teachers, TAs, governors and parents. We aim to promote an understanding of the UNCRC rights of the child within the SJB community. The group as a whole aims to promote a mutual respect between children and adults as well as develop an increased awareness of global issues. The steering group children (children from y3-y6) meet fortnightly to discuss how to promote the rights in school.
They found out, after surveying children in school, which rights they most want to be promoted here at SJB. They then presented these in assembly. The rights are:
Article 3 (best interests of the child): Adults should do what is best for us.
Article 12 (respect the views of the child): Every child has the right to give their opinion and to be taken seriously.
Article 13 (freedom of expression): Every child must be free to say what they think and to receive information.
Article 29 (goals of education): Education should develop every child’s personality and teach them to respect the world around them.
Article 31 (leisure, play and culture): Every child has the right to relax, play and join in activities.
