Eco Warriors focus on reducing the school’s and its communities environmental impact
The Eco Warriors is a group focused on reducing the school‘s environmental impact and inspiring the school community to reduce theirs. Here are details of the driving forces behind our Eco Warriors:
Seraphina in Year 3 wants to help people to switch off the lights when they are not needed to help t save energy.
Noah in Year 3 is going to ensure that we have more access to recycling bins in the school, including blue bins for any food waste.
Harry in Year 3 really doesn’t like rubbish in our environment, he is going to lead a plan to get children out and about tidying up our local environment.
Zumrah in Year 3 is going to help people to reduce water waste, she is going to include a feature in the newsletter about how we can do this in school and at home.
Jor-El in Year 4 loves plants and protecting them. He thinks that the world is very beautiful and he wants to protect animals by protecting their environment. He wants to work with the premises manager to create safe spaces for our little visitors, such as bug hotels.
Olivia in Year 5 wants to help the environment. She feels that she is very good at connecting with nature and enjoys being in the natural environment. Olivia wants to plant more trees around the school to improve the air around us.
Chioma in Year 5 has a very big but simple mission. She wants to help stop climate change in its tracks. As a seasoned Eco Warrior she has lots of ideas to share with the group and the rest of the school community.
Mariama in Year 5 has been inspired by Hackney Council and the wide variety of ways to deal with waste that they have in place across the borough. Mariama is going to drive our initiative to help make sure that everyone know which bins to put their waste in.
We have led a whole school assembly to share and discuss this as well as getting their input and ideas. To see the slides from our assembly please click on the link below:
At the beginning of the Spring Term we will be interviewing different members of staff, such as our site manager and school cook to find out about issues such as water use and food waste.
The Eco Warriors will be running awareness events and assemblies across the year to promote their key messages. They also decided that we could easily increase the amount that we recycle and reuse. We are also in the process of adding posters and notices around the school to remind everyone to switch off electrics and close outside doors behind them.
