ExplorePupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to public schools, aimed at supporting disadvantaged children and helping improve their attainment. The funding aims to close the attainment gap between disadvantaged children and their peers and to ensure the pupils reach their full potential regardless of their background. Pupils eligible for pupil premium are those who currently receive or have received free school meals within in the past six years and pupils who have been in care. Each year, the DfE allocates the Pupil Premium funding to the school. Every school decides on how the funding is best spent for their pupils and can be used in a number of ways including staffing, resources, extra curricular activities, educational visits and more.
