Dear Families,
It has been a particularly proud week as Headteacher as I have spent time reading through all of the wonderful reports celebrating the achievements of our amazing children. Each report reflects not only the progress our pupils have made academically, but also the kindness, resilience, creativity and determination they show every day. It has been a fantastic year of learning, growth, memorable experiences and successes, and I hope you enjoy reading about your child’s journey over the past year.
A real highlight of the week was watching our Year 6 production of School-O-Vision. The performances were entertaining from start to finish, with plenty of laughs along the way. The acting was outstanding, the songs were beautifully performed, and the confidence our Year 6 pupils showed on stage was a credit to themselves and everyone who has supported them throughout their time at St John’s. It was also a pleasure to catch up with so many families who came along to support the children.
As we head into our final week of term, there is still plenty to look forward to. A reminder that our Summer Fayre takes place straight after school on Tuesday. We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a wonderful community event. Please note that stalls will not accept card payments, but cash can be exchanged for school tokens at the token stall, with 10 tokens available for £5.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Summer Fayre and to celebrating a fantastic end to another successful school year together.
Please remember that the school gates open at 1pm on Friday. Have a lovely weekend!
Warm regards,
Ms Toni Mason

Today, many of you had the opportunity to meet your child’s new teacher during our Meet the Teacher morning. On Monday, the children will spend the morning with their new adults, giving them the chance to get to know their new teacher and begin building relationships ahead of September.
As we prepare for the end of the school year, we also have a few staffing updates to share.
At the end of this term, we will be saying goodbye to our SING Music Teacher, Klaudia, who teaches on Mondays and Tuesdays. We would like to thank her for everything she has done to enrich music at St John the Baptist’s and we wish her every happiness and success in the future.
We are delighted to have already appointed our new Music Specialist, Annika, who is pictured below. She brings a wealth of experience and a passion for a wide range of musical styles. She is excited to build on the fantastic music provision at St John the Baptists and is particularly keen to establish a school choir and provide even more opportunities for children to enjoy music beyond the classroom. We look forward to welcoming her to our school community in September. We will be sharing this information with the children this week.

We would also like to wish Enric, our wonderful Spanish teacher, a very fond farewell as he moves to Spain. Over his time at St John the Baptist, he has inspired our children with a love of learning Spanish and has become a much-valued member of our school community. He will be greatly missed by both pupils and staff, and we thank him for his dedication, enthusiasm and the positive impact he has made. We wish him every happiness and success in this exciting new chapter. We are delighted that Enric has helped us find an excellent successor to continue our Spanish provision. We look forward to welcoming Belén Fernández to St John the Baptist from the Autumn Term, and we know she will build on the fantastic foundations that Enric has established.
We have also learned this week that Suzanna, our much-loved School Crossing Patrol Officer, will be leaving us after five years of helping our school community. Whatever the weather, Suzanna has been there each day to help our children and families cross the road safely with a warm smile and a friendly greeting. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication and the important role she has played in keeping our community safe. We wish Suzanna all the very best for the future and thank her for everything she has done for SJB.

As children grow, they spend more time out in the community, make new friendships and become more independent. As parents and carers, this can bring new questions and challenges.
We would like to invite you to a free workshop led by an experienced Young Hackney youth worker. The session will provide a friendly, informal space to meet other parents, share experiences and learn practical ways to help keep children and young people safe.
During the session, we will explore:
The workshop is suitable for all parents and carers and there will be opportunities to ask questions and share ideas.
Date:Â Wednesday 15 July 2026
Time: 5.30pm–7.00pm
Venue:Â St John the Baptist Primary School
The session is free to attend and refreshments will be provided.
We hope you will be able to join us as we work together to keep our children safe, confident and supported.

St Paul’s Cathedral is currently looking for the next generation of choristers and is inviting children currently in Years 3–5 who enjoy singing to find out more about this exciting opportunity.

Becoming a chorister offers children an exceptional musical education alongside an outstanding academic experience at St Paul’s Cathedral School. Choristers take part in services, concerts, broadcasts and tours, with 100% of school fees covered and boarding costs available through means-tested support, ensuring that no child has to pay to sing at the Cathedral.
Families are invited to attend a free online information session on Monday 8th September at 6:00pm, where they can learn more about life as a chorister and the application process.
For more information and to register, please visit the St Paul’s Cathedral website:
