Dear SJB Families,
I’d like to start by wishing Eid Mubarak to all our staff, children and families who are celebrating at home today. I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating with your loved ones.
It has been another full week at St John the Baptist. We were delighted to host a fantastic Easter bonnet workshop on Wednesday, with so many of you attending and helping to prepare for next week’s Easter festivities. The creativity on display was wonderful, and we look forward to seeing those bonnets worn with pride! Please see photos further on in this newsletter.
Today, our school was a sea of red as the children came together to support and raise funds for Red Nose Day. I am delighted to let you know that we raised £382.73 – a brilliant achievement and a reflection of our generous school community.
This week, our Disciples also launched a Kindness Challenge. You can find more information about this in the ‘Disciples News’ section of the newsletter.
As you can tell, it has been a busy week and, we have more to come. Next week is our final week before the Easter holidays with an Easter egg hunt, Easter bonnet parade and our raffle. It’s also Parents and Carers’ Evening on Tuesday and we look forward to catching up with many of you there.
One quick reminder: Please remember that gates will open at 1pm on Friday.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Toni Mason

Today, children came to school dressed in red to celebrate Red Nose Day and support the incredible work of Comic Relief. It was wonderful to see the whole school community come together in such a vibrant and positive way.
Thanks to your generosity, we are delighted to share that we raised an amazing £382.73!
As part of the celebrations, we also held a school-wide competition to decorate a red nose. Our esteemed judges from EYFS staff and pupils carefully selected their top three winners. Congratulations to:
Kimaya (Year 4)

Denzel (Year 5)

Ella- Mae (Year 1)

Well done to everyone who took part – it was very tough competition! Please enjoy just a few photos of our children from today, celebrating and supporting such an important cause…

Thank you to everyone who attended our Easter Bonnet workshop; it was our biggest turnout yet. It was fantastic to see so many creative designs and smiling faces as everyone got involved.
We look forward to seeing the bonnets worn with pride next Friday. Please enjoy some photos from the event!

Our Values Leaders (often referred to as Disciples) are just one of our student leadership groups here at St John the Baptist. They play an important role in leading the spiritual development of the children in our school, as well as supporting a number of wider projects.
This half term, they have been involved in two very exciting initiatives. A number of the group expressed an interest in visiting another Christian church in our local area, so last week they visited St Anne’s Church, just ten minutes away. During their visit, they met the vicars, explored the church, and asked thoughtful and insightful questions. Our Children’s Minister, Doreen, also joined us for this special visit. Please enjoy some of the photos below.
Secondly, in recognition of Lent, the Values Leaders launched a week-long ‘Kindness Challenge’, which began at our church assembly on Wednesday and will run until next Wednesday. Each child selected a secret act of kindness, such as playing with someone new on the playground, giving a compliment to a member of staff, or tidying someone else’s desk.
If children are noticed carrying out an act of kindness, they are given the opportunity to swap their challenge or choose a new one. Interestingly, the greatest challenge has not been completing the tasks, but having them recognised-something that truly reflects how kind our children are every day.
If you would like to get involved at home, we encourage you to set your child a secret kindness challenge of your own. This can be to complete at school or at home.
