Dear Parents and Carers,
This week, we were proud to launch the start of Black History Month across the school. While we have always worked hard to ensure that our curriculum reflects and represents the diverse community we serve, we also recognise that there is still more to be done in addressing the historical imbalances in representation and inclusion.
As always, Black History Month gives us the opportunity to highlight and celebrate these stories, and we would love to hear from any parents, carers, or community members who feel they have something to contribute. Whether it’s running a workshop, giving a talk, or sharing personal stories or experiences, we warmly invite you to get in touch with us – your input can make a real impact on our children’s learning and understanding.
Looking ahead, we are excited about our annual SJB Black History Month Talent Showcase, which will take place on the last day of term. Each class will be represented by an act involving one or more children chosen by their class. It is always a highlight of the school year! We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there to cheer on our young performers.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Ms Toni Mason
As we prepare to celebrate Harvest Festival through our collaborative work with St John’s, Hoxton, we’re asking for your support in helping those in our community who may be struggling. This is a time for giving and showing kindness, and we’ll be collecting donations of non-perishable food items (such as tins, pasta, rice, cereals, and long-life milk).
If you’re able to contribute, please send donations in with your child by Friday 10th October . Every single item makes a difference, and together we can help ensure that everyone in our community has what they need.
Thank you, as always, for your generosity and support.
We are going to be using them around school and as emergency swimming towels.
The much-loved Dalston Peace Mural is celebrating its 40th birthday this year! Painted in 1985, the mural was created to mark Peace Year and has become a well-known part of Hackney’s history. It shows local people coming together to stand up for peace, justice, and community – messages that are just as important today. If you’re passing by Dalston Junction, take a moment to stop and have a look – it’s a powerful reminder of what people can achieve when they come together.
