Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been wonderful to see the children settling so well into the new school year.
Already in just our second week back, classrooms are already full of energy, learning, and lots of smiles. Teachers are very proud of how quickly the children have got back into routines and how kindly they are supporting one another.
It was also lovely to see so many parents attending the welcome mornings for Years 3, 6 and 2. We look forward to seeing more families at next week’s sessions.
Thank you, as always, to our parents and carers for your continued support. We look forward to an exciting term ahead!
Warm wishes,
Ms Toni Mason
If you have already attended a parents’ welcome meeting this week, then you definitely have heard our catch phrase: “Children who read, succeed!” This simple phrase is backed up by powerful research. Children who read for just 20 minutes a day are exposed to around 1.8 million words in a year, compared with only 8,000 words for those who read for just one minute. That enormous difference in vocabulary has a direct impact on children’s progress: readers not only perform better in tests and exams but also develop stronger communication skills, deeper understanding, and a greater ability to learn across all subjects.
But the benefits go far beyond school results. Reading every day improves focus, concentration, and empathy, as children are introduced to new ideas, perspectives, and worlds beyond their own. It sparks imagination and creativity, while also building resilience and confidence. In fact, research consistently shows that children who enjoy reading are more likely to succeed academically and later in life, regardless of background. By making reading a daily habit at home, whether it’s sharing a story together, listening to an audiobook, or enjoying quiet reading time, parents/carers give their children the best possible start for both their learning and their future.

PE Days
Below are the PE days for each class. On their PE day, children should come to school wearing their PE kit so that no lesson time is lost getting changed. Please see poster below for PE uniform. Classes will have either one two-hour swimming lesson or two one hour lessons.
Swimming
Swimming is an essential life skill and a compulsory part of the National Curriculum. It not only supports children’s health and safety but also builds their confidence in the water. Most vitally, it may also be a future life-saving skill. Over the course of the year, all year groups from Reception to Year 6 will have swimming lessons as part of their curriculum entitlement. Pupils will need to bring a swimming costume, swimming hat and towel with them to school on these allocated days. This half term it is Year 6 but please see the poster below for information about when it is your child’s turn.
Here are the dates again for this school year.
We do not authorise holidays in term time under any circumstances. Parents and Carers, please ensure that you do not book holidays or flights for before term ends or for after term has begun. {lease use these dates if you want to book ahead.
Every day in school matters. All requests for leave during term time are monitored by the Headteacher who may wish to meet with you to discuss your request further.
