13 Nov Black History Month
There was a lot of celebrating of Black History Month at SJB. Every Friday all the classes were reading a book written by a prominent black person who has either lived before us or who are currently working for change amongst us now. Classes were discussing and thinking about what they had been reading. Year 3 were reading ‘Sulwe’ by Lupita Nyong’o.
All classes focused on black heroes where they identified a black hero and were asked to do a creative piece of work on why they are inspired by them. The works were part of a competition where the winner received a prize of a hamper put together by The Black Literacy Fund. Our 1st prize winner was Azeroyalle from Chestnut Tree Class! Well done Azeroyalle!
On Friday 23rd October, children and staff came in to school wearing colours of an African / Caribbean country flag. We had some beautiful and colourful outifts which truly represented the diversity and inclusiveness of our school community.
Our raffle prize draw winners received their gifts before half-term. Well done to all the winners! Thank you to everyone who took part.
